Working Groups

Our intergenerational, member-led working groups have become essential to CTA's mission and commitment to building communities for church reform, justice, and alternative worship. Working groups facilitate ongoing attention to various issues and strategies and develop programming and events for CTA membership. Each working group meets via Zoom and provides opportunities to connect with CTA members across North America and abroad.

Reproductive Justice Working Group (New!)

The Reproductive Justice working group seeks to educate Catholics about the reproductive justice framework and facilitate honest and compassionate conversations on abortion. In doing so, we begin our multistep process of moving beyond the Catholic hierarchy’s draconian stance against abortion and visualizing a Church that addresses the harmful ramifications of this position.

This is a new working group! Our introductory meeting will be held on January 23, 8 pm ET / 7pm CT / 5pm PT. Anyone interested in reproductive justice is invited to attend!

Indigenous Solidarity Collective

The Indigenous Solidarity Collective addresses the Catholic Church's historical and current role in colonialization. Goals include educating Catholics about the importance of collective responsibility for violence against Indigenous peoples; lobbying the hierarchy and political leaders; and building relationships with Indigenous groups so that we may be in solidarity with their activism and leadership. Recent projects include the 2022 Advent calendar and petitioning President Biden to release Indigenous activist Leonard Peltier.

Meets every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month
7 p.m. ET/ 6 p.m. CT / 4 p.m. PT

Alternatives Working Group

The Alternatives Working Group grew out of CTA’s 2020 National Campaign. Members focus on creating inclusive worshipping communities outside the parish context — and educating Catholics about such communities. Projects have included virtual liturgies and CTA’s Alternative liturgies calendar. This working group meets monthly. Immigration and Borders Working Group

The Rio Grande Valley chapter hosted “Life At the Margins: A Border Experience” in fall 2019. Fifty members from around the country spent a weekend on the Mexico/U.S. border learning about the daily struggles against white supremacist immigration policies, border militarization, and US nationalism. This led to the creation of the Immigration and Borders Working Group. Members meet to learn about current immigration issues and how they can take action for justice.

The Immigration Working Group meets on an as-need-to basis.
