Rosary Vigils hope Synod will pray with LGBT families
In seven cities from coast to coast, Catholics are gathering to pray the rosary outside the cathedral during the Synod with the hope that the Bishops will pray, listen and discern with LGBT families. The series of Rosary Vigils begins in San Francisco and concludes in Baltimore with stops in strategic cities where bishops have been especially outspoken about their anti-LGBT views. The vigils are being organized to send a message to the Bishops that their flock is hoping they will hear coming out of Rome: our Church is one that believes in inclusion and ministry to the margins rather than exclusion and hateful messaging.
Vigils are organized by HRC with the help of local partners, including CTA chapters. "We PRAY our Bishops listen to the voices of US Catholics around issues surrounding marriage equality, fertility, and divorce. We pray they pay attention to the needs of their flock and listen to our opinions,” says organizer Lisbeth, who is travelling from coast to coast with the Vigil tour. "When discerning we hope they consider that 71 percent of US Catholics support same-gender relationship recognition, that over 90 percent of Catholic women use contraception, and that many a divorced Catholic still considers their Catholic faith to be essential to their lives!"
