Conference spotlight: Be heard!

Lui at Detroit Pride

Lui at Detroit Pride

This year in Memphis, be sure to keep an eye out for Lui, our young adult leader who'll be coordinating a great opportunity to make your voice heard. "Back in June, I had my first local project done in Detroit at Motor City Pride. It was the first time ever for CTA of Michigan to actively participate in Motor City Pride. What I did at the booth, which was asking attendants of our booth to make/draw signs on "What do you hope for the church in future?" on the portable whiteboards and took pictures (with permission)," he explains. “Which then the pictures were to compiled into a letter to Rome, which is still in progress to ask our Pope to hear their people, the church." (The pictures can be seen at https://www.facebook.com/CTA2030.Michigan)

CTA staff asked Lui if he might like to do a similar action at the Call To Action booth in the exhibit hall, and he also volunteered to wander around Conference to ask people to get involved. He organized an action which will ask conference attendees the following:

a) What message you have to Church about Family & Inclusion. Are there any message you want to be heard, that didn't get into family synod?

b) Why do we support CTA?

c) Why should you attend national conference?

Answer these on the white board, have your picture taken and get involved! The answers to the first question will be used to write a letter to the Bishops.  The others will be used to promote Conferences and events and get new people involved in Church reform.

The booth will be open Friday and Saturday and Lui says, "And I will be walking around with whiteboard sheet, so if you couldn't find the time, but still wanna make the signs, just holler! I will be wearing Mariner's cap with a little paint on... (I wore it when I was volunteering to build chicken coops for a community garden, people told me it would wash off, but you know, it didn't). I will either be wearing Redwings Jersey or Mariner's something (hoodie or jersey). I'm 4'11", so I guess in a funny way I’m easy to find! If you see a very short person with dark hair in Redwings/Mariners jersey with Mariner's cap, it probably 90%, me! So just say, "Lui! (pronounced louie)" and I'll stop!"
