LGBT Catholics "Own their faith"

In a short documentary released online earlier this month, LGBT Catholics and their loved ones spoke proudly of their families and their Catholicism. The film features individuals of varied identities and beliefs, married, single, celibate, straight, queer, cradle Catholics, converts, former Catholics and everything in between. The film interweaves their stories of faith and family and powerfully witnesses to the beautiful diversity of our Church as well as the struggles that LGBT individuals and their straight allies face in reconciling their understandings of Church .Several of the featured individuals are CTA members and friends, including Hilary, a leader in our MD chapter and Mateo, a Dignity young adult leader. In addition to the short film, there are powerful longer interviews with each family available online (some haven't been posted yet). What a great way to explore the diversity of experience within our Church!

How does a couple navigate the realization that one of them is trans or a gay child deal with a parent's rejection? How does a young convert understand her sexuality or a young couple decide where to attend Mass? What does it mean to be a Catholic in the LGBT community or an LGBT person in the Catholic community? Each individual answers differently and for each their faith both helped and sometimes hurt their relationships. You'll certainly be drawn in by their stories. These videos could be a great conversation starter at your local chapter or faith sharing group, let us know how your discussion goes!
