“Lent Mayhem” “Crown of Light” Winners

CTA’s "Lent Mayhem" "Crown of Light" winners are St. Oscar Romero and Servant of God Thea Bowman.

Romero was assassinated while celebrating Mass due to his outspokenness against human rights abuses during the civil war in El Salvador. In his homily the day before he died he said that "Easter is a shout of victory!"

Bowman, who could become the United States' first ever black Saint, famously spoke truth to power--even to the USCCB.

Their examples of standing up to oppressive power structures is relevant today more than ever. May they continue to inspire us!
