20/30 Young Adult Community Offers Online Book Discussions

Hello, CTA 20/30 family and friends!

We are launching a monthly series of Online Book Groups focused on Family! The Synod of Bishops will be gathering in October 15 to discuss church and family, and Call to Action has been working to make sure that conversation is diverse, inclusive and many, many different types of families are represented at that table.

Sarah Amalia Holst is going to host book discussions for the 20/30 community creatively exploring expanding boundaries and blurring borders of what "family" means to progressive young Catholics. We'll be reading chapters from books that examine traditional ideas and assumptions, view Catholic thought through anti-oppression lenses, and help us engage in conversations that are grounding and inspiring in the face of this messy, mysterious diversity of God.

In January, we read a chapter from Debbie Blue's book Consider the Birds: a Provocative Guide to Birds of the Bible. It went so well, we thought we would give one of the other chapters a whirl! Chapter 1, "The Pigeon: Purity and Impurity" will help lay the foundation for re-thinking traditional assumptions about the Bible, where God is and where God is not. Blue will encourage us to open our minds in exploring God and family.

This WEB CONVERSATION (hosted on Google Chat) is open to all 20/30s members and other young progressive Catholics --or any spiritual-seekers in this age bracket seeking progressive, alternative, experiential, connection and discussion! The conversation will begin at 7:30 pm Central Time on Google Chat on April 23rd. RSVP on Facebook, but also RSVP by email to Katie Jones, our CTA Online Book Group tech guru. You must RSVP to her to receive the Google hangout invitation: katie.anne.jones@gmail.com. We encourage you to buy the book to support Debbie Blue, but email Sarah Amalia Holst if you want a copy of the chapter: sarahaholst@gmail.com.

Whether you are a longtime theologian, just curious about what the hubbub is about, or seeking community with some awesome young progressive Catholics for an evening, YOU ARE WELCOME TO JOIN THIS CONVERSATION! You need not be any kind of expert!
