Helping the media cover the voices of Catholics
In advance of the Synod on the Family, CTA and other lay-led Catholic groups have collaborated to create a Media Guide and distributed it to over 200 journalists and commentators who will be covering the Synod. The guide will help journalists cover the Bishop's meeting in a way that reflects the reality for Catholic families and recognizes the diverse voices of the laity.
"As the Synod approaches, it is important media hear from the Catholic grassroots. There will be undoubtedly many clerical experts on talk shows and radio stations - but what about everyday, lay Catholics? Who is speaking for them? Who is covering their voice? Lest we forget, this is about Catholic families in the modern era, and who better to speak to those joys and challenges than Catholic families themselves," said Ryan, CTA's Director of Communications.
The guide is a resource which points journalists to lay experts and progressive voices on the issues that the Synod will discuss. While the official participants of the Synod will mostly be celibate men, we hope that the media will reach out to experts with the diverse lived experience of family life in our modern Church!
