Standing for Racial Justice

Last weekend at our Call To Action conference, Call To Action partnered with Milwaukee's Coalition for Justice and held a march to Red Arrow Park where Dontre Hamilton, an unarmed black man was shot 14 times by a local police officer.  At the Rally for Justice, people spoke including Dontre's mother.  Hugs were exchanged, and solidarity was felt.On Monday, two days later, the Hamilton family learned the U.S. District Attorney's office decided not to press criminal charges against the officer.  It was a painful blow but has not ended the conversation.  The frustration can be heard in Nate Hamilton's voice as he calls for action to be persistent and strong in the face of racism.  There will be a RALLY TO SUPPORT A TIME FOR JUSTICE on Thursday, November 12, 2015, at 12:30 PM.  Attendees will gather at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Statute at Walnut Street & Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, Milwaukee.

At the same time the president  of Missouri State University finally resigned after months of protests against racism that was allowed on campus, including a hunger strike by a student.  Finally both back and white members of the football team refused to practice or play until there was action.  While the struggle for racial justice on campus is not over, there was a major step taken in the right direction. Both of these situations demonstrate the importance of people standing together in the face of injustice.  We are called to hold strong with our brothers and sisters.  Whether our joint efforts bring change or strengthen us in times of trial, it is only our unity that can chip away at the racism imbedded in our institutions and in our country. We are Call To Action, and we work for racial justice.  Come and stand with us.
