Abuse survivors and advocates gather in Chicago
SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, is holding their Conference this weekend in Chicago and time is still left to register! The conference will feature workshops by survivors like Juan Carlos Cruz, who spoke out about his abuser, a prominent Chilean priest, and empowered others to come forward, and advocates like Justice Anne M. Burke, who has directed the efforts of the National Review Board of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops investigating the causes and effects of the clergy abuse scandal and helping to establish guidelines and policies for effectively responding to this scandal. Panels and plenary speakers will explore how far we've come and how far we have to go and how the work of survivors is progressing around the world as well as many other important parts of this important and inspiring struggle for justice. SNAP and CTA are long time friends and many CTA chapters and members are very involved in SNAP's activism and in the wider movement to find justice for abuse victims and prevent sexual abuse in churches, schools and communities. As SNAP celebrates 25 years of work and looks toward the future, CTA is happy to celebrate with them and continue on this work together to build a more just, transparent and accountable Church.
