Mothers Day march planned in DC

Violence and racism harm our communities and families every day. This Mothers Day, the group Mothers for Justice United have organized a "Million Moms March" in DC to rally for the families and communities hurt each time a young person is killed.

"For every individual killed, there is a mother who has suffered a loss greater than any one person should have to bear." they say, "We, the mothers of this movement, are calling on all concerned community members to join us in our fight. Together we unite to stand against police brutality and racial injustice and to demonstrate our love and determination to protect our children and our country."

Call To Action 20/30 leader Megan has been involved in supporting families impacted by police violence in Milwaukee.  She's excited to be part of the march and made the connection between Call To Action's focus on ministry to families and the work to end racism and violence.

Mothers for Justice United was founded by the mother of Dontre Hamilton, who was killed by police in 2014. "Maria and her family tried to make sense of the tragic circumstances which took Dontre from them at the age of 31, and waited and worked to obtain justice for their son and brother. Maria came to know the suffering which has been visited on all too many black mothers whose children have been victims of police or vigilante violence." say the group's official materials. "Unarmed young black men in particular have been effectively executed for minor crimes, such as jaywalking, suspected theft of cigars, selling loose cigarettes, shoplifting, or, as in the cases of Trayvon Martin and Dontre Hamilton, the noncriminal acts of making white people uncomfortable or fearful in public."

If you are in the DC area, be sure to join them in this important witness for families and justice.  If you can't make it in person, you can support the work by donating travel funds to bring victims families together this Mothers Day!
