Kansas City Catholics support fired Church worker

Today, Colleen Simon and her supporters, including many CTA members who've been working with her, will deliver a petition to Bishop Finn asking him to reinstate Colleen in her job running a local food pantry. Colleen served the community at the St. Francis Xavier soup kitchen in Kansas City and loved her job. She says that her employers knew that she was married to a woman when they hired her, but after her marriage was mentioned in a local news profile on her work, she was told she must resign from her job. Colleen is now suing the diocese to give her back her job.

A petition in support of her effort to return to her job has gotten over 33,000 signatures. Colleen invited her local support network to attend the press conference today when she will deliver the petition to the Bishop's office. She thanked her community for the many letters and public shows of support that they've made on her behalf and said she hopes for a swift and just solution so she can get back to the work she loves.

The local Call To Action chapter will be honoring Colleen's courage this weekend at their annual Magdalene Celebration this weekend. For more information, contact the chapter.
