CTA chapters, parishes sponsor Diana Hayes speaking tour

On April 28th, Diana Hayes will kick off a "thruway tour" of Upstate New York with a talk in Buffalo, from there she will head to Syracuse, Rochester and Albany.

Diana Hayes is is Emerita Professor of Systematic Theology at Georgetown University (retired). She holds the Juris Doctor (Law), PhD (Religious Studies) and Doctor of Sacred Theology (STD) degrees and is the first African American woman to earn a Pontifical Doctorate in Theology (Catholic University of Louvain). She has received numerous awards including the Elizabeth Seton Medal for Outstanding Woman Theologian and the US Catholic Award for Furthering the Role of Women in the Church as well as three honorary doctorates.  She'll be speaking on two topics during the tour: the first "Standing in the Shoes My Mother Made: The Making of a Womanist Theologian" relates to her most recent book, and the second topic, "The Challenge of Renewing the Church: Pope Francis, the Vatican and You," promises to be a hit as well.

The Buffalo event kicks off both the ThruWay tour and a series of talks by women theologians in Buffalo. "It really just all came together," says Mike, one of the organizers. "We were thinking of speakers with stature to bring for CTA and the Newman Center was looking to feature woman theologians."Each year, the CTA chapters in upstate New York co-sponsor "ThruWay" speaking tour across the state, past tours have brought people like Roy Bourgeois and Christine Schenk to the region and have been attended by 100s of local Catholics.
