Conference Spotlight: Building progressive community for young families
An interactive workshop at this year's Conference in Memphis will focus on a topic that has been at the core of discussions over dinner or drinks at Conference for years: How do we minister to our children and teens? How do we create a progressive Catholic community to raise our children in?
"Parents have been wondering how to strengthen our families & communities through faith & parenting, and how to make CTA’s mission & activities accessible to families with young children. We’ve brainstormed ideas for conference activities, online communities, & even summer camp. Now, in this International Year for the Family, it's time for action! We welcome all parents to come share ideas & experience to help CTA be a warm, welcoming, nourishing community of all families,” say the organizers, who are active participants in the CTA families Facebook group and listserv.
The group session will be facilitated by Becky and Christa, both longtime CTA members and active in their local chapters in Baltimore and Philadelphia. Becky is the new mother of one energetic young child and has been married to her partner for four years, a former leader of CTA 20/30 Becky was one of several new moms in CTA who are active in our online groups this year. Christa and her family, she is the mother of two boys aged 7 and 12, have participated in several CTA conferences together. She has facilitated our Faith & Families listserv and been a leader in her local chapter.
Opportunities to meet like-minded families to share strategies, stories, faith and struggles is one of the great things that keeps people coming back to CTA conferences year after year. This workshop is an exciting way to push those conversations to center stage, but we know it will continue long after Saturday afternoon as CTA friendships are forged and community broadened.
Register for Conference today and make sure not to miss this great chance to meet others committed to making our Church and CTA a welcoming place to raise our children!
