Celebrating the Life and Legacy of a Saint
This Sunday the Church celebrates the canonization of two Popes, John Paul II and John XXIII. Many of our members are particularly celebrating the life of John XXIII, who called together the Second Vatican Council. "Conventional wisdom held that Roncalli would be a mere placeholder," reads the bio available on our website, "but within his first hundred days in office, Pope John XXIII embarked on a revolution. Visiting St. Paul’s Basilica in Rome on the feast of the Conversion of St. Paul, he astonished his audience by summoning an ecumenical council.”
Our movement for reform and renewal, and our organizational mission and vision, are rooted in the Second Vatican Council's charge to "scrutinize the signs of the times" and respond in the light of the Gospel. The council empowered Catholic laity to be the Church they know is possible.
In Chicago, our chapter is sponsoring a prayer and reception after the morning Mass at a local parish. Plan your own event using the resources on our website.
