Call To Action Statement on Ferguson
November 25, 2014
Dear Friend,
It is with a heavy heart that I write today. The situation in Ferguson makes clear - our work for racial justice must continue in earnest. We must recommit ourselves to the work of dismantling systemic racism and white privilege. In their statement following the grand jury decision, Michael Brown’s family issued a call to action:
“While we understand that many others share our pain, we ask that you channel your frustration in ways that will make a positive change. We need to work together to fix the system that allowed this to happen.”
As we gather with family and friends this Thanksgiving, let us enter into prayerful conversation about how each of us can work for positive change. Together, we can transform systems that produce tragedy into systems that bring about nonviolence and justice. Please join me in prayer for Michael Brown's family, the community of Ferguson, and all those affected by violence and oppression every day.
Much peace,
Jim FitzGerald, Executive Director
