An Introduction and an Invitation

As you might have already read, I am Marci Madary and as of Monday, June 1, I am the new Director of Programs for Call To Action.  While I am getting my feet on the ground and discovering the lay of the land, I am fortunate to be entrusted with all the good work of my predecessor, Ellen Euclid. That, along with the rich heritage of Call To Action, inspires me and motivates me as together we unfold the future of this important and necessary organization.

A critical dimension of this position is to highlight and give voice to amazing things happening in the Call To Action chapters. It is a way for all of us to get to know each other a little better in addition to becoming inspired by one another.  So I can share the good news, please let me know if there is something happening in your chapter: an event, a protest, or some other action.  You can reach me at marci@cta-usa.org or 773-404-0004 ext. 261.

I look forward to connecting with you as I work with the JustChurch initiatives. I welcome your ideas, your perspectives, and your wisdom.

As a lover of poetry, I would like to share a poem by one of my favorite poets, Hafiz. May the love in our hearts embolden us to speak out for justice and to speak up for those without a voice.

If It Is Not Too Dark

By Hafiz

Go for a walk, if it is not too dark.

Get some fresh air, try to smile.

Say something kind

To a safe-looking stranger, if one happens by.

Always exercise your heart's knowing.

You might as well attempt something real

Along this path:

Take your spouse or lover into your arms

The way you did when you first met.

Let tenderness pour from your eyes

The way the Sun gazes warmly on the earth.

Play a game with some children.

Extend yourself to a friend.

Sing a few ribald songs to your pets and plants -

Why not let them get drunk and wild!

Let's toast

Every rung we've climbed on Evolution's ladder.

Whisper, "I love you! I love you!"

To the whole mad world.

Let's stop reading about God -

We will never understand Him.

Jump to your feet, wave your fists,

Threaten and warn the whole Universe

That your heart can no longer live

Without real love!
