Easter: Parousia

For Lent 2021, members of CTA’s Anti-Racism Team are sharing weekly reflections. As they are published, their pieces will be posted here.

Parousia

The inky black is all there is
Until the whisper of command
Brings forth golden ribbons
In an unending promised land.

The land lies awash
In the storms of willfulness;
The flood evokes
God’s merciful benevolence.

Conquest and exile
Follow in the wake of denial;
Even the darkness of despair
Cannot keep away the light of renewal.

Famine, plague, war, slavery!
cries the prophet in anguish.
Comfort and joy, he proclaims,
And all tears to be vanquished.

Darkness and light,
in cycles come.
When darkness envelops all
The light begins to thrum
A song to heal,
A song genteel,
A song so sweet,
A song replete
With golden ribbons of light
to flood the night
Revealing to great enthrall
Our God, who is all is all.
