“I Dream”

Choreography by Carla DeSola
Dancers: Carla DeSola and Zara Anwar (Dominican University of California ‘20, Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet BFA Program, Siena Leadership Team)

As a liturgical dancer I have often danced on the 3rd Sunday of Advent, a good day for movement, both rejoicing and prophetic in proclamation. I am pleased to offer this year “I Dream” in a virtual way. It was originally designed for the Good Friday, Livermore Labs, 2018, anti-nuclear demonstration, with congregational response, and then revised for the Sacred Dance Guild Festival, 2020 during the time of COVID 19, impelled by the urgency for justice. With music and verses composed by Benjamin Mertz (see closing credits) following a workshop “The Cry of the Dove,” we danced “God’s love flowing like a mighty stream...” of swords (guns) cast down, of the “people holding hands as they sing...all are free.”  You are invited to engage your body in movement/prayer as the spirit inspires, dancing a future of hope. O, come, o come, Emmanuel. We dream of peace.
