Weekend of Resistance in Ferguson

The St. Louis-based Organization for Black Struggle and other Don't Shoot Coalition members have called for a mass mobilization in St. Louis this weekend, October 10-13. CTA affiliate Catholic Action Network (CAN) is one of the many organizations bringing people out for the event and organizing places for out of town-ers to sleep and eat.  If you'd like to be there in support, check out fergusonoctober.org for all the details, contact CAN director Jenn for information about traveling in from elsewhere and sign up here to volunteer.

"We would love to have CTA people come in and join us. There is a team of us working to get free housing, mostly through churches and schools, for out of town guests, so if people need housing just let me know,” says Jenn. "For people who can't come into town that weekend, donations are always appreciated, especially to the bail fund. There are several mass civil disobedience actions being planned and we imagine there will be a number of arrests."

Mass demonstrations against racism and police violence have been taking place in Ferguson for weeks and have gotten the wider community involved as well.  Over the weekend, a small group got a lot of attention with their "Requiem for Mike Brown" action at the Symphony concert. Catholic Workers and CAN have been especially involved in helping white folks confront their own racism and be effective allies in this movement led by those most affected by the systemic racism of our country and are asking you to come support this weekend!
