Equally Blessed reaches out at Creating Change Conference

In Denver this month, nearly 4000 activists for LGBTQ justice gathered to learn, grow and create change. The annual Creating Change Conference, organized by the National LGBTQ Taskforce, brings together thousands of leaders of all ages, genders, races and orientations to activate our movement. Hundreds of workshops on diverse topics illustrate the wide range of issues that intersect with our work for LGBTQ justice, from environmental change to incarceration rates and sex ed to affordable senior housing and too many more to list!

Among the attendees were many Catholics and former Catholics who stopped by the Equally Blessed Coalition's table in the exhibit hall to find out more about the Catholics working to create a more just Church. Representatives of the national staffs of Dignity and CTA were joined by local Denver volunteers of our organizations. Over four packed days, we made hundreds of connections and heard personal stories of hurt and hope. In addition, we were honored to have been chosen to lead workshops during the Conference. Ellen, of CTA, led a workshop on religious exemptions and the importance of Church Worker rights. Jim and Tierra, of Dignity, lead a popular workshop on organizing Catholics in "the Age of Francis." We each also managed to find time to attend few workshops and broaden our understanding of the movement.Next year's conference is going to be in Chicago, we can't wait to be a part of it!
