“Those of us who were abused by priests were isolated, lonely and unsure who our friends would be. It is impossible to describe how few friends survivors could find in the early days. The perpetrators had duped us, our parents “couldn’t believe this,” Parish personnel, aunts and uncles would turn their backs. Individual survivors became pariahs. Only when we found each other did we have the courage to identify ourselves. But then, to whom could we tell our stories? From Belleville to Boston, from McAllen to Fairbanks, Call To Action was the first to open doors for us. We took encouragement from the people of Call To Action who understood instinctively that the major problem was lack of accountability of the bishops, even more than the criminal acts of the priests.”
Barbara Blaine, founder Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP).
“If you’ve not seen this movie, come this Sunday. If you have seen it, come again and have the chance to discuss afterwards with Barbara Blaine. The new ICON Theatres at Roosevelt Collection are on a cul de sac, between Wells & State Streets, just north of Roosevelt Road.
